                                                11 June 1972

Dear Jack,

As things begin to shape up -- a likely need to go to Korea before
going on to the States, etc. it now appears Helen and I may be leaving
the first week in August.

She suggests that I write to inquire if you and your family would
like to use our house during that period. The advantages would be that
you would have ample time to hunt around. I have a good working library
you're welcome to use, and I daresay our car would be available, too. al-
though visiting ADC firemen might have first crack, since it's a Council
car.

The house is in KL, rather than close to the university, but it
is not overly distant - welll, by Bangkok considerations virtually around
the corner - say 20 minutes by car at best. But the golf club is close
and there may be some system via Embassy whereby you can get to use it
if only for the swimming pool for your family. Other disadvantages: we
have a Siamese cat who has a role problems (he has befriended a visiting
lady white rabbit. Other more important disadvantage: you might be stuck
by being unable to take "just the right house" by such a commitment.
But in all fairness, this is highly unlikely. We have learned it is better
to wait than take the first thing that pops up.

I would assume we can work out some nominal rent. Normally, we
haven't done this (only once - for a string of visiting scholars - and the
string was too long) but it could be of hlep to you and we'd just as lief
have someone in the house than not. We"re now cook-hunting, having lost
KL's best Cantonese cook to America, but daresay we'll have something lined
up within a week or so. Trying a Hainanese gal now, but that style cook-
ing is trying indeed.

So, if you could let me know pronotto. At this point, no commit-
ments to anyone.

                                        Cordially,
