A Royal souvenir

The greatly admired couple are captured beautifully on the se-tenant set of two over-sized stamps (measuring 52mm x 37.5mm). Featuring a stunning metallic gold border, they portray William and Catherine in both a formal pose and an informal embrace. The denomination of both stamps is $2.40, which is the postage rate of a standard letter to the United Kingdom. That makes them perfect to place on the envelope when you send the happy couple your best wishes for their big day!

The wedding of the year

The Royal wedding will take place at the 1000-year-old Westminster Abbey – the coronation church since 1066 and the venue for 15 Royal weddings, including that of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. Once married, the couple will return to Buckingham Palace where The Queen will host a reception, followed by a private dinner hosted by The Prince of Wales.

Australia Post is commemorating the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton with the release of a stamp issue.

There are two stamps featuring an image of the couple taken after their engagement was announced, one a domestic rate (60c) and the other the international rate to the United Kingdom ($2.25).

“We trust this special stamp issue provides collectors and the public with a memento to mark this historic and happy event. The Royal Wedding stamps follow the recent stamp issue commemorating the 85th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II,” said Australia Post Managing Director and CEO, Ahmed Fahour.

The stamps were designed by Jo Mure from the Australia Post design studio. Included among Jo’s recent stamp designs are Australia’s Favourite Stamps (2009) and the Centenary of Girl Guides (2010).

The stamps feature the official engagement portraits taken by world-renowned photographer Mario Testino on 25th November. The formal image was taken in the Council Chamber of St James’s Palace, while the informal image shows the couple in the Palace’s Cornwall room.

As with all Royal Mail’s commemorative stamps, The Queen has given final approval for their issue, with Prince William also involved in the approval of these stamps.

Stephen Agar from Royal Mail said: “We are honoured to be celebrating this very special and historic occasion.  We believe that that this set of stamps will be very popular with people both in the UK and around the world.”

This is the third time Prince William has appeared on a Royal Mail stamp.  The Prince featured on a sheet of stamps to celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother’s 100th birthday on 4th August 2000.  In 2003, The Prince became the first member of the Royal Family to have a set of stamps produced to celebrate their 21st birthday.  The Prince’s wedding stamps will deliver another landmark as Prince William is the first of The Queen’s grandchildren to have their wedding commemorated on a set of stamps.

The stamp sheet consists of two 1st class stamps and two £1.10 stamps, which capture the couple in both formal and informal poses.
