The Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Jawi: %u064A%u06A0 %u062F-%u06A4%u0631%u062A%u0648%u0627%u0646 %u0627%u06AC%u0648%u06A0) is the head of state of Malaysia. The office was established in 1957 when the Federation of Malaya (now Malaysia) gained independence. A literal English translation of the title is "He who is made Lord". However, common alternatives are "King", "Supreme Ruler", "Paramount Ruler", or "Supreme Head of State". Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy with an elected monarch as head of state.

Since 1993, the full title in Malay has been, Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong (His Conqueror Majesty The Supreme Lord of the Federation). Prior to that, the honorific Ke Bawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia (The Dust Under The Feet of His Majesty) was also used. The consort of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is called the Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen Lady Consort). The couple are addressed in English as "His Majesty" and "Her Majesty" respectively.

Biography of Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah

He was born on 28 November 1927.  Tuanku Abdul Halim married twice: In 1956 to Tuanku Bahiyah, daughter of Tuanku Abdul Rahman of Negeri Sembilan by whom he has three daughters. In 1975 to Cik Haminah binti Hamidun, a commoner from Perak, who was titled Che Puan Kedah until 9 January 2004 when she was promoted to Sultanah of Kedah On 15 July 2008. On 15 July 2008, Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah celebrated his Golden Jubilee as the Sultan of Kedah. He is only the fourth Sultan in a line of 28 Sultans who have celebrated 50 years of reign in Kedah.

Tuanku Abdul Halim was elected the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the 226th Meeting of the Conference of Rulers on Oct 14 last year, succeeding Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu. Tuanku Abdul Halim is the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong to reign twice. His Majesty is also the first to be installed at the new Istana Negara in Jalan Duta.

Adding to the uniqueness of the installation ceremony this time around was Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. When Tuanku Abdul Halim was installed as the Fifth Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the prime minister then was Najib's father, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, the second prime minister of Malaysia.
